Judith studied at Maidstone College of Art in Kent, receiving the David Murrey Scholarship for landscape painting and a BA Honours in Fine Art.
Drawn mainly to the landscape of the Kent countryside, the sea as well as the garden, Judith prefers early morning, mid-afternoon and early evening light. To a certain extent representational, she begins with an idea based on strong observation and develops the composition from sketchbook studies and memory. "Then the reality is not so essential in order for me to develop the painting. This enables me to create the light and atmosphere with tone, colour and brushwork. Strong shapes are worked with large brushes and sometimes rags, this keeps the painting loose. Finally I tighten up on certain areas where I want the eye to focus, using smaller brushes and a rigger for the important drawing and mark-making.”
A regular exhibitor at the Mall Galleries, Judith is a longstanding member of the Royal Society of British Artists, the Small Paintings Group and the New English Art Club and has won numerous prizes.
