Mari paints abstract landscapes in a variety of media - paint, ink, oil pastel, etc. She works in an experimental and intuitive manner - an unpredictable and exciting process, resulting in a distillation of her experience and an expressive, atmospheric evocation of place.
These mixed-media works were produced on a recent art residency at Cape Cornwall. Mari was captivated by the energy of the sea filling and emptying the small coves along the Penwith coastline twice daily. The geology of the area was striking, from white egg-like boulders to the twisted striations of minerals threaded through massive jagged black rocks. And above it all, the swooping flight of seabirds criss-crossing the sky. The canvases were painted to the pulse and crunch of waves on the rocks beneath the studio where she worked.
