Working mostly in oil on board, linen or canvas, the act of painting is a direct response to Ann's environment whether inspired by daily walks in the ever-changing elements of the Cornish landscape or the quiet contemplation of flowers and everyday objects around her.
Painting surfaces are prepared with layers of gesso and glazes of colour. This under painting is integral to the finished piece as it is revealed through both impasto and glazed paint manipulated with palette knives, cloths and brushes. Many small drawings, collages and oil sketches on newspaper are made for reference during the process of creating the paintings until she feels the work is complete.
Born in Huddersfield, Ann trained at Canterbury College of Art and Design. She is now relocated to West Penwith in Cornwall.
