Anne de Geus
Born in London in 1934, Anne studied Fine Art at Bromley Art School and then took a teachers training diploma at Brighton College of Art. She now lives and teaches in the Downland village of Alciston in East Sussex, UK.
“The Downland countryside has, of course, been a great influence on my paintings, which are often landscape. I find the contrast of man-made shapes and natural forms exciting, and continually adjust colour and shape trying to capture the essence of my surroundings. My paintings are not abstract, but they are abstracted from the subject. They are based on reality, but they are not portraits of places. There is no hidden message, no social or political statement in my work; just ‘look and see how I feel about where I live’. If the viewer recognises and enjoys something of this, then that is a real bonus.”
