John Masterton graduated in 2008 with BA (Hons) in Ceramics from the Harrow Ceramics course at the University of Westminster. This new career followed many years in research and consultancy in the Telecommunications industry.
John makes his work on the wheel, using porcelain clays. The work is glazed using brilliant Copper Red and the cooler colours of Celadon and Tenmoku, all inspired by and based on classical Chinese recipes. Firing in a gas kiln to around 1300oC is a vital part of the making process, transforming the basic materials into something very special. Some pieces are finished with Silver adornments.
Since graduation, John has been showing his work in a variety of venues,
including major National ceramics events - Earth and Fire at Rufford, the
Oxford Ceramics Fair and Art in Clay at Hatfield House and Farnham
His studio is at his home in Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire.
