Lesley seeks out wild lands and remote shores with recent paintings stemming from a winter trip to the Isle of Islay in Scotland. Working mainly in oils on board, these pieces balance colour, texture and line to express the artist’s response to rugged northern climes.
“I love changeable weather and dramatic skies. On Islay, at times there was no horizon at all with sky and sea merging completely and nothing but a white ocean roar. And then the clouds would lift and a torrent of vivid colour filled the distance with snippets of coloured stones and grasses in the foreground …”
Lesley is one third of The Cambridge 3 and has exhibited in The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and The Mall Galleries. She currently works from her home studio and PICA Studios in York.
