Lesley’s paintings are a subjective response to places she visits.
The Irish paintings in this exhibition were inspired by the “strange, mystical atmosphere” surrounding the Neolithic sites, waters, stacks and boglands of County Mayo, Ireland.
Lesley makes sketches on site and then works from memory and imagination back in the studio.
Currently based in York, Lesley exhibits widely throughout the UK including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Mall Galleries, London.
“A sense of timelessness is something I'm after in the atmosphere of each painting, whether it be the suggestion of a solid form, a soft, sweeping, mistlike mark or the cutting line of sharp rock."
