Rooftop Café is a 4-plate colour etching of people eating on a terrace at the top of a building. The white haired was talking enthusiastically.
All of Robert's recent etchings have been about people and their lives. He is interested in their experience and tries to make images that make him feel what they are feeling.
Although Robert made prints at Art School and owned a press, his printmaking really took off in 2011 when he started to make multi-plate colour etchings. He has found that it is the perfect medium for this subject. Its size and intensity increase its intimacy, and the fact that it is a multiple makes it less precious and more approachable.
