Sara JohnsonLiving on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, Sara is drawn to the tidal estuaries along the North Norfolk and east coasts, where the light is reflected off the mudflats and the landscape is in a constant state of flux. Her paintings combine memory with photographs and sketches made en plein air, fusing abstraction and figurative elements of the sea and landscapes to convey the spirit, mood and textures of the place.
Sara works in water based mediums, more recently exploring acrylic and mixed media, enjoying the textural qualities achievable by painting on board. “I like to build up layers of paint, scratching and sanding back to reveal underlying colours, flicking and allowing the paint to drip until it feels right and a sense of place emerges.” |
