Duncan PassDuncan is a painter, pencil artist and multi award-winning printmaker based in North-East Derbyshire. In 1995 he left his job as a leisure centre attendant to go to art college, and has been a practising artist ever since.
For his prints, he uses two presses he designed and built himself with the help of a local engineering firm, who manufactured the components. One is a roller press with a 6’diameter star wheel. The other uses bottlejacks for compression and landrover springs for the return. He also uses two small Victorian book presses which he found in an antiques emporium, combining traditional woodcut techniques with modern materials, making printing plates from chopping boards, perspex and engineering plastic. His images are inspired by landscape, nature, myths and legends, history, industry and his faithful studio assistants, ex-racing greyhounds Kelly and Gunner. His print ‘Zoomies’ was the winner of the 2013 Melbourne Festival of Creative and Performing Arts Open Exhibition, and his print 'Sunlight and Shadow' won a Derbyshire County Council Award at the 2014 Derbyshire Open Art Competition. |
