Sue Davis"Painting is my way of exploring the sensory world."
Form, pattern, colour, music are all sources of inspiration. As Sue begins a work, she tries to rid herself of any pre-concieved idea of how it might develop and tries to work in a spirit of playful exploration. The chaos this invites can lead to exciting ‘accidents’ that have the potential to be the most beguiling parts of a work and lead it in a particular direction. Slowly, as the work progresses, more disciplined decision making is involved. As further layers of paint are added and adapted, colours evolve, shapes appear and the composition develops. A successfully completed work is usually one that displays pictorially the careful balance between the mix of order and chaos involved in its creation. |
